Bilateral Ties
On the economic front, the State Bank of India (SBI) plans to raise approximately ₹50 billion through Basel III-compliant additional Tier-I perpetual bonds by the end of February. This move aims to strengthen the bank’s capital base, reflecting a positive growth trajectory in India’s banking sector. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecasted above-average temperatures for February, raising concerns over potential risks to winter crops like wheat, rapeseed, and chickpeas. The anticipated warmer conditions may lead to early crop maturation, affecting agricultural productivity and food security.
In international relations, India and the United States have signed a significant agreement to enhance cooperation in cybersecurity and digital infrastructure, deepening bilateral ties amidst rising global cyber threats. On the cultural front, the Prayag Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 has officially commenced, attracting millions of pilgrims. This year’s event holds special significance due to a rare celestial alignment occurring once in 144 years, underscoring India’s rich cultural heritage while contributing to economic activity through tourism.
This awareness is crucial for cracking the UPSC prelims, excelling in UPSC mains. It helps perform well in the UPSC personality test, thus becoming an informed and effective UPSC civil servant.
