What are the Rare Earth Minerals?

  • Lieutenant Carl Axel Arrhenius discovered the first rare earth when he uncovered a hefty, black rock in a mine in the Swedish hamlet of Ytterby. He gave the rock the name ytterbite (later renamed gadolinite).
