EWS stands for Economically Weaker Section. In India, the EWS category was introduced by the government in 2019 to provide reservation benefits to economically weaker sections of the society who were previously not covered under any reservation scheme. The EWS category is applicable in government jobs and educational institutions and is meant for individuals whose family income is below a certain threshold and do not belong to any other reserved category.
