The Office of the commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), has announced the KEAM eligibility criteria. The Kerala Engineering, Agricultural and Medical Entrance Exam (KEAM) is conducted once a year for Indian candidates who seek admission for various courses across the colleges of Kerala. The course only offers courses at an undergraduate level. Candidates must ensure that they check the KEAM eligibility criteria given in this page before applying for the exam. Candidates must also be aware of the documents required for the process.

  • The KEAM Exam Eligibility varies based on the course chosen by the candidate. In the following article, the eligibility criteria for all courses are mentioned.
  • There is no upper age limit for attempting the exam. Candidates are allowed to attempt the exam as many times as they wish
  • Candidates are granted admission on the basis of the KEAM cut off marks set by each participating college or university. Candidates who qualify for the exam does not necessarily mean they are eligible for admission into all colleges.

KEAM Eligibility Criteria 2025 - Important Details 

The eligibility criteria for the KEAM exam are mainly based on the nativity of the candidate and the course that they have opted for. There is a wide range of courses available in the KEAM exam, each of which have different eligibility criteria. The KEAM exam is only applicable for Indian Citizens.

Educational Qualifications

All of the candidates must pass their Senior Secondary high school qualifying examination or any other equivalent qualification. The marks required to pass the Qualifying Exam vary from course to course, continue reading to know more about the aggregate marks needed to qualify for the exam.

Educational Qualifications

Engineering

  • A minimum aggregate grade of 50% in math, physics, and chemistry is required to pass the higher secondary test administered by the Board of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala.
  • Additionally, candidates must obtain a 50% mark in math on their own.
  • Candidates must have received a combined grade of 45% in mathematics, physics, and chemistry on their higher secondary exams from the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, in order to be admitted under the management quota.
  • If an applicant has not studied chemistry, his or her performance in computer science will be considered.
  • The applicant's biotechnology test scores will be taken into consideration even if they haven't studied chemistry or computer science.

Architecture

  • Candidates must pass the higher secondary exam or any other exam of a similar nature. 
  • A 10+3 diploma in any stream with mathematics as one of the subjects is also required of applicants for KEAM 2022.

B.Pharma

  • Candidates must get at least 50% on the combined higher secondary exam in Biology, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in addition to Biology, Mathematics, and Physics separately.

Medical/ Allied Health Sciences 

  • Candidates must pass class XIIth or any other higher secondary examination or an equivalent to it, with science subjects.

Age Limit Criteria

Only applicants who will have turned 17 by December 31, 2024, are eligible to take the admission exam. There will be no exceptions made for candidates in terms of the minimum age requirement. There is no maximum age for KEAM 2025 applications.

Some seats will be set aside for specific categories out of the total seats available for admission in various courses through this entrance exam.

Number of Attempts

There is no upper limit for attempting the exam hence the candidates can try out for the exam as many times as they wish. To become eligible for the exam, candidates must ensure that they possess all the educational qualifications and ensure that they have all their documents in order. Only candidates who fit all the eligibility criteria shall be granted their KEAM Admit Cards for the exam.

Aggregate Marks in Qualifying Examination

KEAM offers a multitude of courses, each of them have different guidelines for the minimum aggregate marks needed in the qualifying Examination to be eligible for the KEAM entrance exam. Given below are the aggregate details needed to apply for each course.

  • Candidates must receive 50% compulsorily in Biology.

BAMS/ BHMS

  • Must clear the "Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala exam with an aggregate of 50% in Biology/Biotechnology, Physics, and Chemistry. 
  • Candidates must achieve 50% in Biology to be eligible for the exam.

BUMS

  • Must pass the higher secondary examination set by the board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala with an aggregate of 50% marks in Biology/Biotechnology, physics and chemistry combined.

B.Sc (Honors). Agriculture, B.Sc (Honors) Forestry, BF Sc. Courses

  • Must successfully complete the higher secondary examination administered by the Kerala Board of Higher Secondary Education with an overall score of 50% in Biology/Biotechnology, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Individual candidates must receive 50% on the biology exam.

BVSc. and AH Course

  • Must successfully pass the Board of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala's higher secondary exam with a combined 50% in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

Engineering Courses

  • Must successfully complete the Board of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala's higher secondary examination with a combined 50% score in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.

Architectural Courses 

  • Must pass the higher secondary test or any other exam that is similar.
  • Additionally, applicants for KEAM 2022 must have earned a 10+3 diploma in any stream with mathematics as one of the courses.

Pharmacy courses

  • Must receive 50% or above on the higher secondary test in Biology and Mathematics separately as well as in Biology and Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry combined.

KEAM 2025 Nationality Eligibility Criteria

KEAM 2025 applications are only accepted from Indian citizens. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders shall be admitted on the same basis as Indian nationals. However, PIO/OCI applicants will not be qualified to apply for any relaxation intended for candidates in the reserved category.

Additionally, Indian citizens would be divided into Keralites and Non-Keralites. All applicants who wish to participate in KEAM 2025 must be Indian citizens. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are both considered to be citizens of India. However, they are not eligible for bookings. Candidates for professional degree admission will be divided into three categories: Keralite, Non-Keralite Category I (NK I), and Non-Keralite Category II (NK II).

Eligibility for Keralite

  • The children of all Indian Service (AIS) officers who are not from Kerala and are assigned to the Kerala Cadre are likewise regarded as having a Kerala origin. However, they won't be qualified for any reservations.
  • Candidates must present a certificate proving that either their mother or father was born in Kerala in order to demonstrate that they are of Keralan descent.

Eligibility for Non Keralite I

The individual will be placed in Non-Keralite category I if they don't have Keralan ancestry but meet the requirements listed below (NK I ).

  • Candidates who have completed a qualifying course in Kerala and who are the sons or daughters of a Non-Keralite working in the government or the military who are stationed in Kerala.
  • Candidates who have completed a qualifying degree in Kerala and who are the sons or daughters of someone who is not from Kerala must have worked for the Kerala government for at least two years.
  • A candidate who, although not of Keralan descent, has lived in Kerala for at least five years during the course of their 12-year education.

Eligibility for Non Keralite II

  • Candidates who did not fit into the Non-Keralite category I or the Keralite category can be classified as Non-Keralite category II. Such applicants are qualified to enrol in Kerala's government- or independently-funded engineering institutes. For admission, they can choose between a management or a government seat.
  • However, Non-Keralite category-II candidates would only be taken into consideration for government seats in government-run, self-financing colleges if neither the Keralite category nor the Non-Keralite category I candidates are eligible for admission.
  • Non-Keralite category II is ineligible for communal or special bookings as well as cost breaks.

KEAM 2025 Reservation

For all candidates, the nativity clause is a requirement. Those who meet the nativity requirements are eligible to obtain the corresponding reservation. The KEAM 2025 reservation will be updated here if there are any changes. However, by the KEAM 2025 reservation criteria from the prior year, the following group of applicants will also be taken into consideration for reservation:

  • candidates whose parents are employed in the agriculture and fishing sectors
  • Parents of applicants who are employed regularly by the Keralan government as nurses.
  • candidates with some background in the medical industry

There are reservation criteria for candidates with disabilities. The provision has been implemented to empower all candidates. However, candidates must present the necessary documents for validation. Given below is the reservation criteria all participating universities must implement: 

  • All of the institutions have 3% of seats allocated for individuals with disabilities. The percentage of the disability must be at least 40%, and a certificate must be granted in accordance with the regulations established by the Kerala government.
  • Candidates applying for admission to medical programmes (apart from BHMS) must meet the Medical Council of India's eligibility requirements for "Persons with Disabilities."
  • Admission to the medical programmes is not permitted for those who are "visually handicapped," "hearing impaired," or "locomotorically disabled" with an upper limb.
  • Candidates who have a "Locomotors disability" of the lower limb between 50% and 70% are eligible for the Disability Act's benefit of reservation for admission to the medical programmes.
  • According to the guidelines set forth by the Central Council of Homoeopathy, candidates who are blind (including colour blind), deaf, and/or dumb are not eligible for admission to the BHMS programme.
  • According to the policy, a self-attested copy that is issued no more than three months after the date of recruitment will be acceptable for claiming reservations.

Documents Required for KEAM 2025

The main documents required for the KEAM exam are related to the nativity of the candidate. They are segregated into Keralite and non-Keralite categories. 

Keralite Category

The printout of the application must be sent along with any of the documents listed below to verify the applicant is a Keralite.

  • Authentic SSLC certificate indicating Kerala as the place of birth.
  • Authentic copy of either parent's SSLC certificate proving that they were born in Kerala.
  • Authentic copy of the candidate's passport or the passports of either of his or her parents proving Kerala as the place of birth.
  • The candidate's birth certificate indicates that she was born in Kerala.
  • Birthplace in Kerala is indicated on a certificate from the village officer or tehsildar.
  • Proof that one or both parents is an All India Service Officer is provided by a certificate from a competent body.

Non-Keralite Category I

The printout of the application must be submitted with one of the documents listed below, together with documentation demonstrating the applicant's membership in Non-Keralite Category I (NK I), in order to be considered.

  • Certificates from the leaders of the organisations where the candidate's parents work and study, as well as the institution where the candidate is enrolled.
  • A certificate from the village officer attesting to the candidate's five-year residency in Kerala.
  • Certificate from the Institution's Head attesting that the candidate has completed grades VIII through XII.

Non-Keralite category II

Non-Keralite Category II candidates must bring both a copy of their passport and a "Certificate of Completion of Qualifying Examination" to confirm their nationality.

  • Candidates who did not fit into the Non-Keralite category I or the Keralite category can be classified as Non-Keralite category II. Such applicants are qualified to enrol in Kerala's government- or independently-funded engineering institutes. 
  • For admission, they can choose between a management or a government seat.
  • However, Non-Keralite category-II candidates would only be taken into consideration for government seats in government-run, self-financing colleges if neither the Keralite category nor the Non-Keralite category I candidates are eligible for admission.
  • Non-Keralite category II is ineligible for communal or special bookings, as well as cost breaks.
