The Constitution was adopted on 26th November , 1949. Originally, the Constitution of India consisted of the Preamble and 395 Articles. The Constitution defines India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic and republic country. It also outlines the structure and functioning of the government including the authority and responsibilities of important officials such as the President, Prime Minister and state Governors. Article 153 of Indian Constitution is an important provision under Part VI. Article 153 deals with the Governors of States.

Interpretation of Article 153 of Indian Constitution

Article 153 of Indian Constitution states - “There shall be a Governor for each State: Provided that nothing in this article shall prevent the appointment of the same person as Governor for two or more States.”

According to Article 153 of Indian Constitution every state in India is required to have a Governor who serves as the constitutional head of the state and is appointed by the President of India. The Governor is neither directly elected by the people nor indirectly elected by a specially constituted electoral college as is the case with the President. The same person can be appointed as the Governor for multiple states. The Governor acts as the representative of the President in the state and is responsible for carrying out various constitutional and ceremonial duties. 

The provision allows the central government to streamline administration and promotes effective governance. It also ensures administrative flexibility and efficient utilization of resources.
