A യുടെ ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ പ്രായം = x വയസ്സ് എന്ന് കരുതുക.
അപ്പോൾ, B യുടെ ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ പ്രായം = (x + 8) വയസ്സുകൾ
അപ്പോൾ, (x - 4)/[(x + 8) - 4] = 1/2
⇒ (x - 4)/(x + 4) = 1/2
