A single discount equivalent to successive discounts of 40% and 20%

Formula used:

Single Discount = 1 - (1 - d1) × (1 - d2)

Calculation:

Single Discount = 1 - (1 - 0.40) × (1 - 0.20)

⇒ Single Discount = 1 - 0.60 × 0.80

⇒ Single Discount = 1 - 0.48

⇒ Single Discount = 0.52 = 52%

Single discount = D1 + D2 - (D1 × D2)/100
