Question
Download Solution PDFThe Thiessen polygon method is used to ________.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFExplanation:
Thiessen Polygon Method:
- Thiessen's method assumes that the rainfall at any point within the polygon is identical to the nearest gauge.
- For this method, all the gauges in and around the basin are considered.
- This method is also called the weighted average method.
The average precipitation over an area is
\(P_{ave}={P_{1}A_{1}+P_{2}A_{2}+P_{3}A_{3}+\,...\,+P_{n}A_{n}\over A_{1}+A_{2}+\,...\,+A_{n}}\)
Where \(P_{1},\, P_{2},\,P_{3},\, ....\, A_{n}\, are\, the\, rainfall\, data\, of\, areas\, A_{1},\, A_{2},\, A_{3},\, ....\, A_{n}\,\)
Important Points
The Thiessen polygon method calculates the average precipitation over an area superior to the average arithmetic method.
