The sum of two numbers is 5 times their difference. If the smaller number is 24, find the larger number.

Given:

Smaller no = 24

Calculation:

Let the larger no be = a

Difference of the numbers = a - 24

As per the question;

(a + 24) = 5(a - 24)

⇒ a + 24 = 5a - 120

⇒ 144 = 4a

⇒ a = 36

∴ The larger no is 36.

Alternate MethodBy Hit and Trail Method

Option 1: (24 + 30) ≠ 5(30 - 24)

Option 2: (24 + 32) ≠ 5(32 - 24)

Option 3: (24 + 36) = 5(36 - 24) = 60

Option 4: (24 + 48) ≠ 5(48 - 24)
