Question
Download Solution PDFFormula for Number of Magnetic poles (P) in an Induction motor= ____
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFConcept:
In a three-phase induction motor, the number of magnetic poles depends upon the supply frequency and the synchronous speed as follows:
\({P} = \frac{{120f}}{N}\)
Where P = number of poles
N = Synchronous Speed in rpm
f = supply frequency in Hz
- The number of poles or the number of magnetic poles refers to the magnetic poles (NSNS…) that appear on the surface created by cutting the motor perpendicularly to the shaft.
- Synchronous speed is the speed of rotation of the magnetic field in a rotary machine. An induction motor always runs at a speed less than synchronous speed.
