Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and his brother Ganesh Damodar Savarkar created the secret Indian Independence organisation known as the Abhinav Bharat Society (Young India Society) in 1904.
When Vinayak Savarkar was still a student at Fergusson College in Pune, it was first established at Nasik as the "Mitra Mela".
The organisation then expanded to several hundred revolutionaries and political activists, with branches in different regions of India and also to London when Savarkar travelled to London to study law.
Following a few assassinations of British officials by the Abhinav Bharat Society, the Savarkar brothers were found guilty and sentenced to prison, and the organisation was declared disbanded in 1952.
