Download Solution PDFA train crosses a 155-m-long platform in 16 seconds and a 195-m-long platform in 18 seconds. The speed of the train is:
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFLet the length of the train be d m, and speed of the train x km/hr.
As we know,
Speed = Distance/time
⇒ x × 5/18 = (d + 155)/16 ---(1)
Again,
⇒ x × 5/18 = (d + 195)/18 ---(2)
From equation (1) and equation (2)
⇒ (d + 155)/16 = (d + 195)/18
⇒ (d + 155)/8 = (d + 195)/9
⇒ 9d + 1395 = 8d + 1560
⇒ 9d – 8d = 1560 – 1395
⇒ d = 165
From equation (1)
⇒ x × 5/18 = (165 + 155)/16
⇒ x × 5/18 = 320/16
⇒ x = 20 × 18/5
⇒ x = 72 km/hr
As we know,
⇒ 1 km/hr = 5/18 m/sec
