Given

A number is increased by 10% and the increased number is decreased by 20%

Formula used

Total percentage change = [a + b + ab/100]%

Calculation

Here a = 10 and b = – 20, a negative sign shows the percentage decrease

Percentage change = 10 – 20 – (10 × 20) / 100

= - 10 - 2

= –12 %

∴ The number will decrease by 12%
