A dishonest shopkeeper sells millet at Rs. 20 per kg which he has bought at Rs. 16 per kg and he is giving 800 gm instead of 1000 gm. Find his actual profit percentage.

Given:

Cost Price of the mangoes = Rs.16 per kg

Selling Price of the mangoes = Rs.20 per kg

Cheats by 1000 - 800 = 200 gram

Formula used:

Profit % = (Profit / Cost Price) × 100

Profit = (Selling Price – Cost Price)

Calculations:

The cost price of 1000 grams of sugar = Rs.16

The cost price of 1 gram of sugar = 16/1000

He gave only 800 grams, and cheat on the customer with 200 grams

So the cost price of 800 gram sugar = (16 × 800)/1000

The cost price of 800 grams of sugar = 12.8

The selling price of sugar = 20

Profit = 20 - 12.8 = 7.2

Profit % = (Profit / Cost Price) × 100

⇒ (7.2/12.8) × 100

⇒ 56.25 %

∴The profit earned by shopkeepers is 56.25%

⇒ CP : SP = 16 × 800 : 20 × 1000

⇒ CP : SP = 16 : 25 ⇒ P = (25 - 16= 9)

Profit % = (9/16) × 100 = 56.25%
