Question
Download Solution PDFA cubical block of side 10 cm and with a mass of 600 g, floats in water. How much of the cube is submerged?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFFormula:
Density = Mass / Volume
Volume of cube = (Side)3
%submerged= density of object/density of fluid *100
Note: here 600gm is the complete weight of cube.
Given:
Side of cube = 10cm, Mass = 600 g = 0.6 kg, density of water = 1000 kg / m3
Let's try to find out the density of cube so that we can use the formula %submerged = density of object/density of fluid*100
mass of cube = 0.6kg
volume of cube = (0.1)(0.1)(0.1)m3 = 10-3 m3.
hence the density of cube = 0.6/10-3 kg/m3 = 600kg/m3
% of cube submerged in water = 600/1000 × 100 = 60%
