Question
Download Solution PDFA car owner buys gasoline at Rs. 17, Rs. 19 & Rs. 21 per liter for three consecutive years. Compute the average cost per liter, if he spends Rs. 6783 per year?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Per year expenditure on gasoline = Rs. 6783
Calculation:
Total amount spent in three years = 3 × 6783 = Rs. 20349
Total quantity of petrol consumed in 1st year = \(6783\over17\) = 399 L
Total quantity of petrol consumed in the 2nd year = \(6783\over19\) = 357 L
Total quantity of petrol consumed in the 3rd year = \(6783\over21\) = 323 L
∴ Average cost = \(20349\over 399+357+323\) = Rs. 18.8591/litre ≈ Rs. 18.85/litre
∴ The correct answer is Rs.18.85/litre.
