A can complete a piece of work in 25 days while B can complete the same work in 30 days. They work on alternate basis, starting with A. Both A and B follow this pattern for 5 days and then A leaves the work. In how many days will B finish the remaining work?

Given:

A and B can complete the work in 25 days and 30 days.

A and B work alternatively  = 5 days

Formula used:

Work = Efficiency × Time

Calculation:

Total work = LCM of (25, 30)

Total work = 150 unit

The efficiency of A = 150/25 = 6 unit/day

The efficiency of B = 150/30 = 5 unit/day

A and B work alternatively for 5 days, starting with A, then

⇒ 6 × 3 + 5 × 2

= 28 unit

Remaining work = 150 - 28

Remaining work = 122

The Time taken by B to complete the remaining work = 122/5

= 24(2/5) days

∴ The required days to complete the remaining work by 'B' are 24(2/5) days.
