The correct answer is Chlorine.

Many non-metals are used as disinfectants such as iodine, chlorine, etc.
Chlorine is used to disinfect water for all purposes i.e swimming pool water to drinking water.
It kills bacteria and other germs which are present in the water.
It also treats mold, algae, slime, bacteria, and other organisms which are present in the water.
The estimate of chlorine used in the treatment of water is four parts per million.
When chlorine is added to a swimming pool it forms a weak acid which is known as hypochlorous acid that kills bacteria such as salmonella and E. coli, and it even kills germs that cause viruses such as diarrhoea and swimmer's ear.
The hypochlorite ion also referred to as bleach is very active in killing pathogens.
