Download Solution PDFLinear displacement transducer:
- A displacement transducer is an electrical transducer used in measuring linear position. Linear displacement is the movement of an object in one direction along a single axis. Measuring displacement indicates the direction of motion.
- Linear displacement transducers work on the magnetostrictive principle.
- A torsional strain pulse is induced in a specially designed magnetostrictive waveguide by the momentary interaction of two magnetic fields.
- The interaction between these two magnetic fields (one from the moving magnet and one passing along the outside of the transducer) produces a strain pulse which travels at sonic speed along the sensor waveguide until the pulse is detected at the head of the transducer where the electronics are embedded.
- A digital displacement transducer to provide a digital output, linear, related to the displacement of a reference surface of an object.
- A digital linear displacement transducer normally uses Gray code.
