A body travels 102.5 m in nth second and 115.0 m in (n + 2)th second. The acceleration is :

  1. 9 m/s2
  2. 6.25 m/s2

Concept:

Equation of motion: These are mathematical formula that describes the position, velocity, or acceleration of a body relative to a given frame of reference.

There are three equations of motion

  1. v = u + at
  2. v= u2+2as
  3. s = ut + 1/2 at2

where V is the final velocity, u is the initial velocity, S is displacement, a is acceleration and t is the time taken.

Calculation:

Using: v = u + at

We get,

 \(102.5 = u + \frac{a}{2} (2n - 1) \)

\(⇒ 102.5 = u + an - \frac{a}{2} \)                (1)

 \(115 = u + \frac{a}{2} (2n + 3) \)

\(115 = u + an + \frac{3a}{2}\)                    (2)

From (1) and (2)

12.5 = 2a ⇒ a = 6.25 m/s2

∴ The correct option is (2)
