WBSSC SLST Assistant Teacher 2025: Overview

In order to hire over 35,726 assistant teachers for secondary classes (9 & 10) and higher secondary classes (11 & 12) in government-aided and sponsored secondary and higher secondary schools throughout the state, the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) plans to administer the second State Level Selection Test (SLST) in 2025. Online applications will be accepted for the position starting on June 16 and ending on July 17, 2025. The state government has implemented more transparency measures in reaction to past inconsistencies, such as providing carbon copies of OMR sheets, publishing answer keys, videotaping interviews, etc.

West Bengal Assistant Teacher Selection Process 2025

Candidates will be chosen for teaching positions at schools for classes IX & X and XI & XII based on their written exams, qualifications, oral interviews, and lecture demonstrations, which will be decided by the Commission in the way outlined in the 2025 Rules.

  • Both Bengali and English will be used for the question papers. The same language will be used in language papers. It will be in Bengali for Sanskrit.
  • Candidates for the position of assistant teacher (IX & X and XI & XII) may apply using any one of the instruction languages.

West Bengal Assistant Teacher Selection Process

There are several phases of the selection process, which has been stated below.

Stage 1: Written Examination: It will be an OMR based examination consisting of 60 marks.

Stage 2: Academics will be considered and marked accordingly:

  • Educational Qualification: 10 marks

any National Council for Teacher Education recognized institution.

Assistant Teacher Higher Secondary (Classes XI-XII)

(a) Post Graduate with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from a recognised University and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from a National Council for Teacher Education recognised institution;

OR

(b) Post Graduate with at least 50% marks (or its equivalent) from recognised University and B.A. Ed/ B.Sc. Ed. from any NCTE recognised institution.

(Note: A relaxation of 5% marks in educational qualification is allowed in case of reserved candidates.)

Age Limit

The age limit for applying for the WBSSC Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2025 is 21 to 40 years as on 1st January, 2025. However, there is a relaxation of age for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per the government rules.
