Question
Download Solution PDFThe difference of two numbers is 1564. After dividing the larger number by the smaller, we get 6 as quotient and 19 as remainder. What is the smaller number?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
The difference of two numbers is 1564.
Concept used:
Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Remainder
Calculation:
Let the larger number be a and the smaller number be b
So,
a - b = 1564 ----(1)
Again,
a = (b × 6) + 19 = 6b + 19 ----(2)
Substituting the value of ‘a’ from Equation 2 in Equation 1
(6b + 19) – b = 1564
⇒ 5b = 1545
⇒ b = 1545/5
⇒ b = 309
So, the smaller number is 309
∴ The required answer is 309.
