  • A DC motor in which both the shunt winding and series winding are present is known as a DC compound motor.
  • If the flux produced by shunt and series windings are additive in nature, then the motor is known as the cumulative compound motor.
  • If the flux produced by shunt and series windings opposes each other, then the motor is known as the differential compound motor.
  • Thus, for calculating effective flux, the net field current is found as flux is proportional to field current.
  • The net field current in a d.c compound motor is given by:

\(I_{f(net)} =I_f + ( {N_{se} \over N_f})I_a\)

where If(net) = Net field current of compound motor

If = Current flowing in the field winding

Ia = Current flowing in the armature winding

Nse = Number of turns in the armature winding
