Download Solution PDFConcept:
As per IS456: 2000, cl. 26.3.2,
The horizontal distance between two parallel main reinforcing bars shall usually be not less than the greatest of the following –
1. The diameter of the bar if the diameters are equal.
2. The diameter of the larger bar if the diameters are unequal.
3. 5 mm more than the nominal maximum size of coarse aggregate.
Explanation:
Dia of main reinforcing bar = 16 mm
Size of coarse aggregate = 20 mm
The horizontal distance between two parallel reinforcing bars should not be less than greatest in the following:
1. Diameter of the bar = 16 mm
2. 5 mm more than the nominal maximum size of coarse aggregate = 20 + 5 = 25 mm
So, the horizontal distance between two parallel reinforcing bars should not be less than 25 mm.
