A square yard (sq yard) is a unit for measuring area within the U.S. (United States) customary measurement system and also within the aegis of the imperial system.
It has also been defined as the area of one square with sides of one yard each.
It is not as widely used globally although it continues to be in vogue throughout the United Kingdom (UK) and United States (U.S.) along with India and Canada among other countries.
The square yard is one of the most important measurement units in the mainstream real estate industry although it is not as commonly used today.
