Question
Download Solution PDFThe side of a square is 16 cm. The perimeter of a rectangle is double the perimeter of the square. If the breadth of the rectangle is 20 cm, what is the length of the rectangle?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Side of square = 16 cm
Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × Perimeter of square
Breadth of rectangle = 20 cm
Formula used:
Perimeter of square = 4 × side
Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × (Length + Breadth)
Calculation:
Perimeter of square = 4 × 16 = 64 cm
Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × 64 = 128 cm
128 = 2 × (Length + 20)
⇒ 128 = 2 × Length + 40
⇒ 2 × Length = 128 - 40
⇒ 2 × Length = 88
⇒ Length = 44 cm
∴ The length of the rectangle is 44 cm.
