Answer (Detailed Solution Below)

Download Solution PDFExplanation:
The throw of a liquid jet can be quite large. Such a jet may reach beyond the limit of the area of the classification zone.
The simplest treatment of a liquid jet is based on the assumption that the jet suffers no drag and does not disintegrate (divide into two parts).
For a jet at ground level, as shown in the figure below the motion in the horizontal direction is given in two ways
a) jet from ground level source (
b) jet from elevated source
Velocity in the x direction:
Where;
t = time, u = horizontal velocity, x = horizontal distance, α = angle between jet and horizontal
Integrating the above equation,
∴ x = utcosα
For motion in the vertical direction, we know that acceleration is only due to gravitation i.e. (g)
- Velocity along the vertical direction (uy) = usinα
- acceleration (a) = - g (acceleration due to gravity)
- distance (s) = y
From,
Substituting all the values in the above equation we get,
By comparing the above equation with the equation of parabola which is
y = Ax2 + Bx + c
We can say that the liquid jet from the nozzle will follow the parabolic path.
