Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Total questions = 75
Marks for correct answer = 4
Marks lost for wrong answer = -1
Total marks secured = 125
Calculation:
Let the number of correct answers be x.
Number of wrong answers = Total questions - Number of correct answers = 75 - x
Total marks = (Marks for correct answers × Number of correct answers) + (Marks lost for wrong answers × Number of wrong answers)
Total marks = (4 × x) + (-1 × (75 - x))
125 = (4 × x) - (75 - x)
⇒ 125 = 4x - 75 + x
⇒ 125 + 75 = 5x
⇒ 200 = 5x
⇒ x = 200 / 5
⇒ x = 40
The number of questions he attempted correctly is 40.
