Consumptive Use of Wate:
- The consumptive use of water for a crop refers to the amount of water consumed by the plant in the process of transpiration and evaporation, during crop growth.
- These two processes (i.e. transpiration and evaporation) are collectively termed as evapotranspiration.
- If the consumptive use of water for a crop is equal to the depth of water, it means that the entire depth of water applied to the crop is being consumed by the crop through evaporation and transpiration, during crop growth. In other words, the water that is applied to the crop is being effectively utilized by the plant for its growth and development.
- Consumptive use of water by a crop is expressed as the depth of water per unit area for a specified period, such as days, months, or seasons.
Hence option (4) is the correct answer.
