Question
Download Solution PDFA car covers a distance of 560 km in 8 hrs. The speed of a bike is five-sevenths of the speed of the car. If the ratio of the speeds of the bike and a train is 5:9, then the distance (in km) covered by the train in 5 hours is
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Car covers 560 km in 8 hours ⇒ Speed of car = 560 ÷ 8 = 70 km/h
Speed of bike = (5/7) × 70 = 50 km/h
Speed of bike : Speed of train = 5 : 9
Formula used:
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
If ratio of speeds is known, actual speed can be found
Calculation:
Let speed of train = (9/5) × speed of bike = (9/5) × 50 = 90 km/h
Distance by train in 5 hours = 90 × 5 = 450 km
∴ The train covers 450 km in 5 hours.
