Air compressors are used in refrigerators, air conditioners, air guns, spray cans, oxygen cylinders, and vehicle tyre inflators. They are also employed in a mechanism known as air brakes in heavy vehicles.

 Air compressors obey Boyle’s law. Air compressors work on Boyle's Law, which states that “The product of pressure and volume of the mass of a confined gas is constant and proportional to the temperature.” Mathematically, \(PV \propto T\).

There are two major categories of air compressors: Positive displacement and Dynamic. Under each category, there are types like Reciprocating, Rotary, Centrifugal, and Axial.

 As there is a continuous supply of air, the air compressors do not run out of air

There are maintenance procedures for air compressors like changing the oil regularly, cleaning oil and air filters, cooler inspection, and cleaning.
