Types of power supplies

1.) Single-phase supply

Single-phase power consists of alternating current passing through two wires in a power circuit. Usually, this will be configured as one phase or live wire distributing the current to the load and one neutral wire carrying it back to the source.

2.) Three-phase supply

Three-phase power is a three-wire AC power circuit with each phase ac signal 120 electrical degrees apart. Residential homes are usually served by a single-phase power supply, while commercial and industrial facilities usually use a three-phase supply.

Explanation:

Statement 1: This statement is false.

In a symmetrical balanced three-phase system, the power in each phase does not become zero at the same instant. Instead, the power remains constant over time. The sum of instantaneous power in all three phases is constant and non-zero. This is one of the key advantages of using a three-phase system, as it provides constant power delivery.

Statement 2: This statement is true.

In an n-phase system, the phase displacement between different phases is typically calculated electrically. For example, in a three-phase system, the phase displacement between any two phases is 120 degrees. In contrast, in a two-phase system (which is less common), the phases are displaced by 90 degrees.
