Question
Download Solution PDFTwo trains are moving in opposite directions at speeds of 80 km/h and 120 km/h. The length of one train time is 300 m. The time taken by them to cross each other is 12 seconds. The length (in m) of the other train, correct to 2 decimal places, is:
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Speed of two trains moving opposite to each other is 80km/h and 120km/h.
Length of one train=300 m
Time taken by trains to cross each other = 12 seconds.
Concept/Formula used:
- Relative speed = sum of speeds of both trains
- Distance= speed × time
Calculations:
We know that,
Relative speed of train= (80+120) km/h = 200 km/h
The relative speed of the train in m/sec. = 200 × 5/18 = 55.556 m/sec
Distance covered by the trains= relative speed × time taken = 55.556 × 12 = 666.67 m
Now,
The length of one train is 300 m.
So, length of other train= Distance covered - length of one train = 666.67 - 300 = 366.67 m
Therefore, the correct answer is option 4.
