Additional Information
- Frantz Fanon was a Martinican-born French psychiatrist, philosopher, and revolutionary writer. He is best known for his contributions to post-colonial theory and his works on the psychology of colonialism and the impact of racism on individuals and societies. Amongst other work, "Black Skin, White Masks" is his most significant work, which was published in 1952.
- In this book he has presented social and psychological experiences of natives under the French colonial powers. He argued that colonialism had subjugated and dehumanized the natives.
- He further argues that white people presented themselves as masters and treated blacks as subjects. Due to this, blacks have internalized racism as a personal failure. They can see themselves only as the mirror image of the white person and try to become 'white' by speaking their language and adopting their culture and values.
