Concept:

  • An ideal diode acts as a short circuit when forward bias, i.e. the diode can be replaced with a shorted terminal.
  • Also, the diode acts as an open circuit when reverse biased, i.e. the diode can be replaced with an open circuit.

Calculation:

For the given circuit, the p-terminal of the diode is at -5 V potential and the n-terminal is at 0 V (grounded).

∴ The diode is clearly reversed bias. Replacing it with open circuit, the circuit is redrawn as:
