- It is an autonomous body established in May 1988.
- It provides academic resource support to the Directorate of Education and the Education Departments of MCD, NDMC, and Cantonment Board in the form of development of curriculum.
- Its mission is to raise the quality of school education by improving the attitudes, increased application of knowledge, and enhanced teaching skills of teachers.
- The SCERT support is available through various programs which include continuing education of teachers, development of appropriate material for teachers and students, and undertaking research studies on the problems related to school education in Delhi.
- The SCERT also oversees and provides necessary guidance towards the effective functioning of nine DIETs of Delhi, which among other activities also conducts two years pre-service Diploma Course in Elementary Teacher Education.
- It provides academic support to the Department of Education, GNCT Delhi in the formulation of policies and planning procedures.
- Its other functions are the development of curricular material of various types viz. Text Books, Supplementary material, Teachers’ Hand Books, Manuals and Modules, etc. Material has also been developed for Audio and Visual Media.
