- বৈদিক যুগ:
- 1500 খ্রীষ্টপূর্বাব্দ থেকে 600 খ্রীষ্টপূর্বাব্দের মাঝের সময়টি বৈদিক যুগ। 1400 খ্রীষ্টপূর্বাব্দে সিন্ধু সভ্যতার পতনের পর এটিই ছিল প্রাচীন ভারতের পরবর্তী মুখ্য সভ্যতা।
- রাজন নামে রাজার অধীনে সাম্রাজ্য ধরণের সরকার।
- পিতৃতান্ত্রিক পরিবার। ঋকবৈদিক যুগে জন ছিল বৃহত্তম সামাজিক একক।
- সামাজিক গোষ্ঠী: কুল (পরিবার) - গ্রাম - বিশ - জন
- উপজাতীয় সমাবেশগুলিকে বলা হত সভা ও সমিতি। উপজাতীয় রাজ্যের উদাহরণ: ভরত, মৎস্য, যদু ও পুরু।
- সভা প্রাক-ঋকবৈদিক যুগে উভয় সমাবেশকেই বোঝাত।
- নারীরাও এই সভায় অংশগ্রহণ করত, এবং তাদের বলা হত সভাবতী।
- ঋকবেদে বলা হয়েছে সভা ছিল নাচ ও জুয়ার সমাবেশ, এছাড়াও বিচারবিভাগীয় ও প্রশাসনিক কার্যও সম্পাদিত হত।
- সমিতি ছিল উপজাতীয় সমাবেশ যেখানে উপজাতির মানুষেরা একত্রিত হয়ে উপজাতীয় ব্যবসা পরিচালনা করত।
- এখানে দার্শনিক বিষয় নিয়ে এবং ধার্মিক রীতিনীতি ও প্রার্থনা নিয়ে আলোচনা হত।
