A person walks 1 km east from a certain place.

He then walks 5 km south, then 2 km east and finally 9 km north.

By using Pythagorean theorem:

AB2 + BC2  = AC2

32 + 42 =  AC2

√9 + 16 = AC

√25  = AC

5 = AC
