Concept:

Amplitude Modulation:

The amplitude of the carrier is varied according to the amplitude of the message signal.

Modulation index:

The modulation index is a measure of the extent of modulation done on a carrier signal. In Amplitude modulation, it is defined as the ratio of the amplitude of the modulating signal to that of the carrier signal.

Calculation:

Given,

Message Signal frequency, fm = 1 kHz

Carrier frequency, fc = 240 kHz

Peak Voltage of the message signal, Am = 3 V

Peak Voltage of the carrier wave, Ac = 10 V

The modulation index is given by,

∴ The correct option is 2.
