National Security Advisor of India, Ajit Doval on Saturday had a telephonic conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. During the conversation, Doval stated that India and Pakistan would be committed to a ceasefire and look forward to restoring regional peace and stability as soon as possible. He highlighted that “War was not India’s choice and was not in the interests of any party.” He briefed the Chinese Foreign Minister about Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, which caused casualties among Indian personnel. Doval reiterated that India needed to take counter-terrorism actions.
The conversation between Doval and Wang Yi followed the ceasefire violation by Pakistan, despite an understanding that was reached on Saturday. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had earlier announced that an understanding was reached this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan to stop the military action that was going on for the last few days. However, within few hours, the understanding was violated by Pakistan and the Indian Army had retaliated the border intrusion swiftly.
India And Pakistan Would Be Committed To Ceasefire
The statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China on the conversation between Wang Yi and Doval read as: “On May 10, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, had a phone conversation with Indian National Security Advisor Doval. China Expects India-Pak To Achieve Lasting Ceasefire
Wang Yi on the other hand, stated that China condemns the Pahalgam terrorist attack and opposes all forms of terrorism. To Doval’s statement that “War was not India’s choice,” Wang responded saying that China appreciates his statement and hopes that India and Pakistan will remain calm and restrained, handle differences through dialogue and consultation, and avoid escalation of the situation. He stressed that India and Pakistan are neighbours that cannot be moved away, and both are neighbours of China.
Wang further stated that China extends support and expects both the countries to achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire through consultations. He added that this lies in interests of India and Pakistan and is also the common wish of the international community.
“The current international situation is turbulent and intertwined. Peace and stability in the Asian region is hard-won and deserves to be cherished. India and Pakistan are neighbours that cannot be moved away, and both are neighbours of China. China appreciates your statement that war is not India’s choice, and sincerely hopes that India and Pakistan will remain calm and restrained, properly handle differences through dialogue and consultation, and avoid escalation of the situation.
