Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has once again won hearts with his simplicity and generosity. This time he surprised a fan in a special way ahead of the first Neeraj Chopra Classic to be held on July 5 at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
Coimbatore resident and javelin throw enthusiast Ranjit Kumar Ravichandran had expressed his desire to join the NC Classic in a post on social media and sought help of Rs 2000 so that he could meet his expenses. The post went viral quickly, and the response from the people was also tremendous.
Neeraj’s response, posted on X (formerly Twitter), stunned not just Ranjith but fans across the country. In his Tweet, Neeraj offered him a VVIP experience and a room at Radisson Hotels, which are partners to the NC Classic.
Hi, Ranjith. You've got a full VVIP experience waiting for you in Bengaluru because your trip to the @nc_classic is on me! 😊
And thanks to @RadissonHotels, you'll be staying about 90 metres away from me. See you soon! 😉 https://t.co/aQvkNEnLry---Advertisement---— Neeraj Chopra (@Neeraj_chopra1) June 27, 2025
This move of Neeraj not only reflects his humanity but also reflects the spirit of NC Classic, India’s first World Athletics Category ‘A’ level javelin throw tournament, which aims to make the sport accessible to all. The prestigious event will feature 12 top javelin throwers in the world, including legends like Paris Olympics silver medallist Anderson Peters and former world champion Julius Yego. Tickets for the event are available on Zomato’s District platform.
Recently, Neeraj won the title at the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike competition by throwing 85.29 meters and finishing in the top-2 for the 24th consecutive time. Earlier, he had a winning performance with a brilliant throw of 88.16 meters in the Paris Diamond League.
Under the tutelage of his new coach, Jan Zelezny – who is the world record holder in men’s javelin throw with a distance of 98.48 meters – Neeraj crossed 90 meters for the first time in the Doha Diamond League and finished second.
Neeraj’s consistent success and his humble nature have made him not just an excellent athlete but a powerful inspiration for the youth of the country.
