India’s young Test talent, Yashasvi Jaiswal, couldn’t hide his frustration after being dismissed in a contentious manner during the second unofficial Test against England Lions at Northampton. After a quiet outing in the first game, Jaiswal was hoping to make an impression, but his stint at the crease was cut short once again this time under controversial circumstances.

What Happened

The incident unfolded in the seventh over of the match after England Lions chose to bowl first. Facing Chris Woakes, Jaiswal attempted to flick a delivery that sharply swung in. The ball beat his bat and struck him on the pads, prompting a loud LBW appeal from Woakes. Without much hesitation, the umpire raised his finger, ruling the batter out.

Jaiswal had managed to score 17 runs from 26 balls, including two boundaries, before the dismissal. However, he clearly disagreed with the decision. The 23-year-old stood his ground, signaling his discontent to the umpire and lingering at the crease for a few moments before reluctantly walking back to the pavilion.

Replays suggested that, had the Decision Review System (DRS) been in place, the verdict might have gone against Jaiswal anyway, the ball appeared to be crashing into both off and middle stumps. Nonetheless, his reaction highlighted the intensity and passion he brings to the game, especially when he feels hard done by an umpiring decision.
