In the next T20 World Cup, India and Sri Lanka will co-host the tournament. This is something that will need to be talked about at our annual conference. While the possibility of India and Pakistan missing the ICC knockouts is slim, placing them in separate groups for the tournament could happen.
According to a BCCI source “The issue is bound to come up for discussion at the annual conference. While prospect of India and Pakistan not playing in ICC knockouts is unlikely, not drawing them in the same group, which has been the norm at ICC events, is a possibility.”
India-Pakistan Cricket Ties Under Scrutiny Ahead Of ICC Conference
In the past decade, it had been normal for India and Pakistan to meet in the same ICC groups, but after the attack in Pahalgam and the confrontation between the two nations this could shift. Not many would argue that the BCCI is the most powerful organisation and that the ICC is led by an Indian, Jay Shah. Shah will be at the annual conference for the first time as ICC chair, having assumed leadership in December.

India-Pakistan Cricket Relations Strained Despite Champions Trophy Success
After India won the Champions Trophy earlier this year PCB, BCCI and ICC decided on a hybrid arrangement for Indo-Pak matches until 2027. It is unclear if two nations will face each other in the 2025 Women’s World Cup to be played in India later this year. The BCCI’s strategy on the issue is certain: it follows what the Indian government states and won’t change after the Pahalgam terror attack left 26 tourists dead for their religion.
