Roger Binny, who assumed BCCI presidency in October 2022, replaced Sourav Ganguly after the latter’s three-year term ended. Binny was chosen unopposed as the 36th president of the board.

During Binny’s leadership, Indian cricket found significant success on the world stage, with victories in both the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. His term also witnessed the historic introduction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), patterned after the immensely successful IPL, providing women’s franchise cricket a platform in India.

Binny also had a strong role in developing India’s domestic cricket infrastructure. Projects during his term were such that more money was given to players, better pay scales, and encouraging senior players to play in domestic tournaments so that overall quality and competitiveness could be enhanced.

Prior to his administrative career, Roger Binny was a renowned Indian all-rounder. He played 27 Test matches and 72 ODIs, taking 47 and 77 wickets respectively. As a batsman, he made 830 runs in Tests with five half-centuries and 629 runs in ODIs. He played a major role in India’s historic World Cup victory in 1983 and was the team’s top wicket-taker with 18 scalps in the tournament.

Binny has also served previously as a selector for the Indian national team, bringing both on-field and off-field experience to his leadership role in Indian cricket.
