Jasprit Bumrah To Lead Team India In Rohit Sharma’s Absence In IND vs AUS 1st Test: Report

The Indian team management has asked batter Devdutt Padikkal to stay back in Australia as a replacement for injured Shubman Gill. Rohit Sharma is also very unlikely to play first IND vs AUS 2024 Test match whereas Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Indian side in his absence.

Team India is all set to play against Australia in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22. As per a report by Indian Express, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is set to miss the IND vs AUS 1st Test after his wife Ritika Sajdeh delivered a baby boy. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the Indian team in the absence of Rohit. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir had already announced that Bumrah will captain the Indian team if Rohit misses out on the first IND vs AUS Test match.

As quoted by The Indian Express, a BCCI official said, “We were hoping that he (Rohit) will travel but he has informed the BCCI that he can’t go now as he needs some more time. He will be flying to Australia for the pink-ball Test match, the second match, in Adelaide. There is a nine-day gap between the first and second Test matches, so Rohit will be able to be there on time.”

The report adds KL Rahul will be playing the IND vs AUS 1st Test 2024 as there were speculations that he may miss the match. Rahul was hit on his elbow during Team India’s three-day practice session held at the WACA ground in Perth. Shubman Gill on the other hand is set to miss the match after he fractured his thumb during a practice session.
