Good News For Rohit And Virat Fans! BCCI In Plans To Get Series Against Sri Lanka On This Date – Know Further Details

India were set to tour Bangladesh in August for a limited-overs series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is.

In a unique situation in contemporary cricket, India and Sri Lanka could end up playing each other in a six-game white-ball series next month. While not included in the formal Future Tours Programme (FTP), the surprising availability of both teams has provided an opportunity for bilateral cricket.

India were set to tour Bangladesh in August for a limited-overs series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is. But, with political unrest in Bangladesh, that tour has been rescheduled to September 2026, leaving a gap in India’s schedule.

Simultaneously, the Lanka Premier League (LPL), to be conducted in the July–August window, has also been put off. This move left Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with an empty calendar and a chance to stage international games in this otherwise idle time.

As per a Sri Lanka’s NewsWire report, negotiations between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the SLC are on about a possible six-match series – three ODIs and three T20Is. Although nothing has yet been confirmed, both the boards are apparently eager to make the most of this combined availability.

Sri Lanka’s Current Commitments

Sri Lanka are currently hosting Bangladesh in an all-format home series. They have just defeated Bangladesh in the ODI series 2-1 and are now hosting a three-match T20I series from July 10 and completing it on July 16. Thereafter, their next international assignment isn’t until late August, when they tour Zimbabwe for a white-ball series.

India’s Schedule Post-England

Team India are in the middle of a five-Test match series in England, which ends on August 4. With no upcoming international engagements until the Asia Cup, this window comes as a welcome chance for a brief white-ball tour to Sri Lanka, if the talks fructify.

India and Sri Lanka have not played each other in a white-ball series since 2024. Sri Lanka surprised India in the ODIs, but the Men in Blue took their revenge during the T20I series. If this series were to take place, it would not only provide quality match practice for both teams before the Asia Cup but also provide a plug in the international calendar with competitive cricket.
