In a poignant moment that reached out to many hearts, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal fulfilled the dream of a young fan on Day 4 of the second Test in Birmingham. Jaiswal encountered Ravi, a visually challenged child and ardent cricket enthusiast, and presented him a personally autographed bat – an act that touched everyone in the audience to their core.
Ravi, who had been watching the Indian cricket team religiously, particularly since the Leeds Test against England had one desire to see his cricketing idol, Yashasvi Jaiswal. That dream finally arrived on Saturday, and it was all the more special as he had hoped.
In a video posted by the BCCI on social media, Ravi was greeted warmly by Jaiswal, who admitted that he was unusually nervous ahead of their meeting.

“Hi Ravi, how are you? I’m Yashasvi – nice to meet you,” smiled Jaiswal. “I was very excited to meet you, because I know how much of a cricket fan you are. I don’t even know why I’m nervous to meet you!”
He then presented Ravi with a signed bat, written on it in his hand: “With best wishes to Ravi, with care and love.” Jaiswal continued, “I’ve got a gift for you… my bat. I want you to keep it as a memory of mine. It’s great to meet you – really lovely to be here with you.”
Evidently overjoyed, Ravi replied, “Nice to meet you too! Thanks a lot! I am waiting to have your bat – you’re an amazing cricketer. I believe that you’re the future of Indian cricket. I enjoyed the manner in which you batted, your hundreds were terrific. You can score big really when you’re on your day!”
Though visually impaired, Ravi left Jaiswal speechless with his great knowledge of cricket and familiarity with Indian players. His love for the game was evident.
“Is so nice to meet him,” Ravi said afterward. “He gave me a bat, and I love watching him. I always track him and always support him.”
This brief but inspiring encounter between a young admirer and his idol was a reminder of the way that sport and its celebrities can impact lives in deep and lasting ways.
