Only weeks since he celebrated an IPL title triumph with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, fast-bowler Yash Dayal is at the middle of a serious controversy. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the 27-year-old cricketer, claiming he had sexually exploited a lady on the assurance of marrying her.
The complaint, registered at the Indirapuram police station on July 6, comprises screenshots of WhatsApp chats, video calls, and photos as proofs. The woman, as per the police sources, has also accused Dayal of financial, emotional, and physical abuse during their five-year relationship. The woman said his family was well aware of their relationship and had even promised her marriage. Dayal’s father has, however, dismissed any knowledge of the woman.
The FIR comes under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual intercourse obtained by fraud, such as by fraudulent promises of marriage. It is a non-bailable offense punishable with a maximum jail term of 10 years.
The woman first approached a women’s helpline for help but, as per reports, received none. She then filed a complaint with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath through the state’s Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) on June 21.

Will RCB and BCCI Intervene?
Though the Indian Premier League 2025 season ended, the event raises important questions of how RCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will react. All players and staff of the team were governed by the IPL Code of Conduct during the tournament. Yet, the Code does not specifically cover off-field activity or incidents that arise after the season concludes.
In previous comparable instances, players have previously been suspended pending enquiries, even if charges arose from incidents beyond the cricket pitch. If precedent is followed by RCB or the BCCI, Dayal would be kept off all cricketing and promotional ventures by the franchise.
A conviction in this matter may have more consequential implications. It may result in a outright ban from all BCCI-approved events and activities.
The BCCI also put in place a holistic Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Policy in 2021, which covers all staff, including players. While this policy gives the board the authority to act on such allegations, legal actions in Dayal’s case are likely to take their own path.
So far, both RCB and the BCCI have kept quiet. If they decide to act or wait for legal certainty, that is yet to be seen.
