Cheeky Sledging From Harry Brook Influenced Rishabh Pant To Throw Away His Wicket Early? Find Out What Happened

Indian deputy captain, Rishabh Pant, departed for 65 runs during the second innings of the Edgbaston Test.

Indian deputy captain, Rishabh Pant, departed for 65 runs during the second innings of the Edgbaston Test. After giving a disappointing performance in the first innings, Pant was expected to deliver something out of the box. During the 4th day, while Pant was still on the crease, England batter Harry Brook seemed to instigate the Indian vice-captain. This, according to some cricket pundits, was seen as an influential reason for the Indian vice-captain’s dismissal. He was seen asking Pant about his fastest Test century and then instigating by telling him his records.

“Do you know about my records? What is your fastest hundred?” Brook was seen overreacting at the crease in conversation with Pant.

Pant’s Mature Reply

Although Rishabh Pant was seen calm and did not react to his intimation, but his fall of wicket at that time and the fashion was seen as an attempt to give a reply to the English batter. He said, ” I think I have scored in 80-90 minutes.” Further, he added after Brook told him about his fastest century in 55 balls that he is not here for records. Sledging and commenting on the field is common in a competitive but losing focus in the game may lead to losing wickets and sudden crumble mid-play.

How Pant Departed?

Rishabh Pant was out caught by Duckett at long-off after a dramatic moment. As he came down the pitch to hit Bashir, the ball dipped and turned, and Pant lost control of his shot. He swung so hard that his bat flew out of his hands towards the leg side, while the ball flew off the edge and landed safely in the hands of the fielder at long-off. Carse, another England player, kindly picked up Pant’s bat and returned it to him. Pant had scored an attacking 65 from 58 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes, and was looking to be even more aggressive—but this risky shot ended his innings.
