Australian Open 2025: Sumit Nagal To Play Against Czech Republic’s Tomas Machac In Opening Round Match

Indian Tennis star Sumit Nagal will be facing Tomas Machac from Czech Republic in the opening round of the Australian Open 2025.

Tennis sensation and India’s highest-ranked player Sumit Nagal is all set to take on Czech Republic’s Tomas Machac in the opening round of the Australian Open 2025. The 27-year-old Indian Tennis star who is currently placed in the 97th spot in the ATP Men’s Rankings. Nagal was able to make it to the main round of the Australian Open 2025 due to being among the 104 highest ranked Tennis players in the world. This will be Sumit Nagal’s second stint at the Australian Open as he shocked his 27th-ranked Kazakhstan opponent Alexander Bublik. Nagal was placed in the 137th rank when he played his previous match in the Australian Open.

Sumit Nagal garnered a lot of headlines last year as he was able to play all four grand slams including the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open. Nagal was under the headlines due to his recent controversy with AITA when he refused to participate in the Davis Cup 2024. Nagal asked for USD 50000 to represent India in the Davis Cup match against Sweden. Then, he faced backlash and got slammed by the AITA. The Indian Tennis governing body had stated that Nagal isn’t interested in playing for the country. However, following the controversy Sumit Nagal had shared an explanatory post on his official ‘X’ handle.
